Elizabeth "Lizzie" Wallace

Memorial services for Elizabeth “Lizzie” Wallace, 19, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Lufkin’s First Baptist Church with Reverend Walker McWilliams and Dr. Andrew G. Pittman officiating. The family will visit with friends and loved ones following the services. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Lizzie was born May 9, 1994 in Dothan, Alabama, and died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in a local hospice facility. She resided in Lufkin most of her life.

Lizzie graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lufkin High School in May 2012. She was a proud member of the National Honor Society, Panther Pride, Drug Free All Stars, IGNITE, 2012 Yearbook Staff, and UIL Accounting Team. Her senior year, Lizzie was voted LHS Favorite, Who’s Who, and Best Personality.

Upon graduation, Lizzie attended The University of Texas, majoring in Psychology. Her ambition was to focus on social work, specifically advocating for children with cancer. Her extracurricular activities included The Navigators, a Bible study group, Students Making Impacts through Love & Empathy, or S.M.I.L.E., and a part-time job with the Veteran’s Administration.

On March 21, 2012 The Life and Times of Grim Lizzie Papa, her blog, gave us our first glimpse into the life of a teen with cancer. Through the next 64 entries, Lizzie taught us all about the true meaning of life, love and faith.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Dianne and Ricky Schmidt of Lufkin; father and stepmother, Travis and Larissa Wallace of Corpus Christi; sisters, Alex Wallace of Lufkin and Chrissii Schmidt of Huntington; grandparents, Bill and Sandra Morgan of Lufkin, Frank Wallace of Hunt and Cathy Vlasek of San Antonio; nephew, Sawyer Daniel Kimmey of Huntington; aunts and uncles, Stephanie and Keith Mangrum of Lufkin, Frank and Anita Wallace of San Antonio and Darby and Gary Myhre of LaVernia; cousins, Kelsey and Suzanne Wallace, Chris and Jamie Myhre; and numerous other aunts, uncles and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Alvin Arthur and Nellie Christine Morgan, and Wesley and Kathleen Pace.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Reed, Conner Brazil, Jeff Keogh, David Oun, Nisha George, Chantal Aguilar, Jennifer Timmermann, Jace Karty and Andrew Williams.
