Funeral services for John D. Taylor, 68, of Huntington, will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Highway Missionary Baptist Church in Huntington with Brother Lamar Denby officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Huntington.

John was born May 22, 1945 in Lufkin, Texas, and went home to his Lord at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2014. He was 68 years old.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Mae Taylor; his father, Jack Taylor; and his son, Michael Kevin Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Burns Taylor; his brother, Andrew Taylor and wife Sharon; his brother, Larry Taylor and wife Sandra; and his sister, Mary Emma Thigpen and husband Terry; mother-in-law, Mrs. Anna Belle Basey; as well as a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.

John, a lifelong resident of Angelina County, had resided in Huntington for the past 49 years and was a longtime member of Highway Missionary Baptist Church there. He spread the gospel of his belief in Jesus Christ wherever he went.

He loved to fish and, after retiring from his ownership of John Taylor Construction, spent the past several years fishing, hunting, and on the farm with his wife, Peggy.

The deacons of Highway Missionary Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Highway Missionary Baptist Church located at 212 South Main Street in Huntington.
