Ella "Granny" Mcguire Irvin

Funeral services for Ella “Granny” McGuire Irvin, 99, of Lufkin will be held Monday, December 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with her great-grandson, David Sullivan, officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Irvin was born June 22, 1914 in Dawson, New Mexico to the late Mary (Wilson) and Nathan “Jake” McGuire. She died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Irvin was a homemaker and later worked as a Unit Supervisor for the Lufkin State Supported Living Facility. She retired in 1979. She was a longtime member of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Irvin was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew her.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Edward and Nola Irvin of Tererro, New Mexico, Mary Elizabeth “Molly” Sullivan, Alice and Medford Havard, Alma and Melvin Hendry, Annie Khan, all of Lufkin, and Marian Waesche of Chicago, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Jo Irvin of Lufkin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; half-sisters, Alice White, Georgia Carter, Sara Jane Zlatfaf, Elizabeth “Britty” Steinback, Carolyn Pipleman, and Lorraine McGuire, all from different areas of the U.S.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Irvin, Sr.; son, Thomas Franklin Irvin, Jr.; son-in-law, Ernest Sullivan; grandchildren, Thomas F. Irvin III, Brian Irvin, Johnny Ray Burke and Jeffery Lynn Havard; sister, Marian Foster; and half-brothers, Marvin “Buddy” McGuire and Thomas McGuire.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Hendry, Steven Irvin, Dale Havard, Richard Caples, Robert Caples and Joe Jimenez.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or a charity of your choice.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon prior to the services.
