Joe L. Mott

Joe L. Mott was born May 16, 1926 in Portland, Oregon to the late Frances Ruth Deremiah and Erwin Lester Mott. He died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his residence in Lufkin at the age of 87. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Mott was a retired Engineer for Southland Paper Mill following 36 years of service, and had lived in Lufkin for more than 50 years. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church and the Son Shine Sunday School Class.

Joe loved music and played numerous instruments including piano, fiddle, clarinet and flute. He enjoyed playing with the “Golden Dreamers” at various nursing homes and senior citizens’ centers.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jo Ann Mott of Lufkin; his children and their spouses, Leslie and Rodger Medley of Santa Clara, California, Steve and Debra Mott of Lufkin, Lisa and Edward Chan of Diamond Bar, California, and Laurie and Kenny Wood of Lufkin; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Shirley Mott of Albuquerque, New Mexico; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arlo Mott.
