Funeral services for Margie L. Baker, 88, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Art Callaham officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Baker was born June 20, 1925 in Lufkin, Texas to John Henry and Sally (Quarles) Placker, and died Saturday, December 7, 2013 in a local hosptial. She had resided in Lufkin since 1964.

In her earlier years Mrs. Baker was an avid golfer and a charter member of the Crown Colony Ladies Golf Association, including the La Di Da Golf Tournament, which her team won on several occasions. She was a charter member of the Crown Colony Dinner Club and the Pine Tree Garden Club. Mrs. Baker loved traveling with her husband Jim on numerous RV trips. She was also a gifted artist. Her paintings are in many homes of relatives and friends. Mrs. Baker was a member of the St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her son, Tom Pierce Baker of Houston; grandson, Casey Baker of Houston; granddaughter, Abby Baker of Houston; sister, Johnnie Simpson of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Eloise Placker of Apple Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Baker; and brother, Wallace Placker.

Pallbearers will be Brax Haney, Max Haney, Ron Raley, James Kerbo, Larry Simpson and Bob Brown.

Honorary pallbearer will be James Gibbs.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, 919 S. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon prior to the services.
