James H. (Steve) Stevens, Jr.

Funeral services for James H. (Steve) Stevens, Jr., 70, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Charles Roberts and Brother Don Bradshaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.

Mr. Stevens was born December 2, 1942 in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Jewel (Melton) and James H. (Peck) Stevens. He died Sunday, December 1, 2013 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Stevens was a retired paper maker for Champion International following 35 years of service. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1962, and served four years in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant based at Bentwaters Air Base in Ipswitch, England. Mr. Stevens was a member of Herty Baptist Church in Lufkin. He was also a Mason and a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M., a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. Steve was an avid golfer and member of the 1:00 o’clock Bunch at Lufkin Country Club.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Pat Nicholas Stevens of Lufkin; two children that their dad was so very proud of: son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Nancy Stevens of Lufkin, and daughter and son-in-law, Aimee and Daymon Gilbert of Kingwood; four fantastic grandchildren, Kaitlin and Noah Gilbert of Kingwood, Britt and Briley Stevens of Lufkin; mother-in-law, Mary Nicholas of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and their wives, Fred and Linda Nicholas of Spring, Terry and Lynn Nicholas of Houston; as well as many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Fred (Buster) Nicholas.

Pallbearers will be Clint Reed, Zane Odom, Paul Britt, Nick Trout, Kevin Boudreaux and David Fain.

Honorary pallbearers will be Britt Stevens, Noah Gilbert, the wonderful men of Herty Baptist Church, and the 1:00 o’clock Bunch.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, East Texas Regional Office, 304 N. Raguet St., Suite C, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
