Vada Mae Foster Stephens

Funeral services for Vada Mae Foster Stephens, 87, of Dayton will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Freeman Cemetery.

Mrs. Stephens was born February 12, 1926 in Groveton, Texas to Stephen Thomas and Ollie Mae (Rushing) Trawick, and died Saturday, November 23, 2013 in a Nacogdoches nursing home. A former resident of Channelview, she had resided in Dayton since 2002. She was a graduate of Groveton High School and had worked for Howard’s and Walmart. Mrs. Stephens was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and James Wells of Broaddus, Elaine and Michael Stevens of Humble and Kathy L. Foster of Cosby, Tennessee; sons, Jonathan D. Hake of Greenville, Charles E. Foster of Lufkin and Milton W. Foster of Dayton; 27 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Cecil D. “Slim” Foster and Kenneth A. “Steve” Stephens; stepson, Kenneth W. Stephens; stepdaughter, Barbara J. Butler; and grandson, Anthony Scott Foster.

Pallbearers will be Michael Stevens, Robert Whitley, Danny Whitley, Malcolm Guerra, Harold Renfro and Sam Foster.

Honorary pallbearer will be Lynn Bryan.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
