Kenneth Lee Burton

Mass of Christian Burial for Kenneth Lee Burton, 88, of Lufkin, will be celebrated Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Francis O’Dowd, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

A rosary will be recited Monday evening, November 18, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Burton was born December 5, 1924 in Washington, D.C., to the late May (Duchamp) and Albert Howard Burton. He died Saturday, November 16, 2013 in a Lufkin hospital. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was retired from the Texas Forest Service following more than 33 years of service.

Kenneth was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II from 1942 through 1946. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the Lufkin Dance Club (formerly known as the Polka Dots), the Polka Lovers Club of American, the SPJST Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Luf-to-go Sams Travel Club and the Lufkin Square Dance Club. He and his wife, Velma, loved to travel in their RV. He had lived in Lufkin for the past 56 years.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Velma Burton of Lufkin; sons, Kenneth Wayne Burton, Patrick Lee Burton and wife Carol, and Thomas Howard Burton and wife Deborah; daughter, Rebecca Parker; and grandchildren, Stephanie Shafer and husband Ty, Shelley Obernuefemann and husband John, Paige Parker, Michael Burton, and Rachel Elliott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Albert Burton, Jr.; and his son, James (Jimbo) Burton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Lee Burton, Kenneth Wayne Burton, and Thomas Howard Burton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2116 Lowry St., Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening prior to the rosary at the funeral home.
