John W. Harris

Funeral services for John W. Harris, 74, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Horace Fletcher and Reverend Curtis Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in the Damascus Cemetery near Corrigan.

Mr. Harris was born February 14, 1939 in Kaufman County, Texas to the late Margaret (Hare) and Charlie Leroy Harris. He died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at his resident.

Mr. Harris was a retired Superintendent for Louisiana-Pacific following 26 years of service, and had lived in Lufkin for more than 40 years. He loved to fish and garden, and loved his children and grandchildren. Mr. Harris was a member of the Damascus Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Harris of Lufkin; his children and their spouses, Mark Harris of Lufkin, Jason and Misty Harris of Huntington, Steve and Gayle Chandler of Lufkin, Wesley Mosley of Lufkin, and Karen and Donald Pittmon of Alto; daughter-in-law, Gina Harris of Lufkin; grandchildren, J.J. Harris, Jessica DeJesus, Tyler Harris, Austin Harris, Rachel Massingill, Rebecca Coulter, Brooke Chandler, Matt Chandler and Jacob Mosley; ten great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl Glen and Barbara Harris of Forest, Edgar Ray Harris of Corrigan, and Allen Wayne and Freida Harris of Etoile; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy Harris and Jimmy Bond of Livingston, Winnie Harris Hanson of Houston, Brenda Harris Redd and Johnny of Athens, Thelma “Tutti” Harris Stanford and Bo of Corrigan, and Stella Harris of Corrigan; sister-in-law, Rose Harris of Corrigan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Margaret Harris; son, John Kenneth Harris; brother, Donald Roy Harris; and sister, Ruth Ann Harris Paul.

Pallbearers will be Adam Stanford, Michael Harris, Jimmy Bond, Donnie Harris, Donald Pittmon and Billy Massingill.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 2005 Ford Chapel Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75901; Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75904; or to the The Mosiac Center, Inc., P.O. Box 154225, Lufkin, Texas 75915.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
