Funeral services for Verdie “Joe” Thrailkill, 86, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Carpenters Way Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Wilke officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Mr. Thrailkill was born October 30, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Harvey Harrison and Edna Rose (Monroe) Thrailkill, and died Friday, October 11, 2013 in a local hospital. He resided in Lufkin most of his life.
Mr. Thrailkill served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Master Brick Mason and had the Atomic Building Co. at Texas Foundries. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and Lions Club for many years. He enjoyed hunting and collecting rocks and petrified wood. Mr. Thrailkill was an active charter member of Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church, and enjoyed taking mission trips to build churches and houses.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Sue (Cates) Thrailkill of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Billie Jo and Mike Morgan, Rose Hall, all of Dallas, and Doris Jones of Apple Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Jennifer Thrailkill of Denton; stepsons and daughter-in-law, Jim and Judy Alexander of Lufkin, Tim and Nevella Alexander of Tyler and Roy and Allyson King of Fort Worth; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike Martinez of Marshall; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Heaton of Pollok; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey Thrailkill and Clyde Thrailkill; stepdaughter, Melinda Alexander; grandson, Blake Alexander; and son-in-law, Tommy Wayne Jones.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Thrailkill’s grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Lyon, Floyd Brown and Roy Dean Cates.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
