Gerald Powell

Funeral services for Gerald Powell, 67, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ronnie Frankens officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Powell was born November 16, 1945 in Springhill, Louisiana, and died Monday, September 23, 2013 in a local hospital.

A former resident of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mr. Powell had resided in Lufkin since 1992. He served in the U.S. Air Force and earned a BA in Communications from Louisiana Tech. Mr. Powell was employed with Bell South for 30 years, and Consolidated Communications for 10 years. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Billie Powell of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Grey and Sharon Powell of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Drew Ellis of Bowling Green, Kentucky; daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Garry Sorrell of Lufkin; son, Darrell Helmacy of Fieldsboro, New Jersey; granddaughters, Caitlin Williams of Bradley, Arkansas, Haley Powell, Rebekah Powell, both of Edmond, Oklahoma, Amberlee Ellis of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Shanna Scheifley and husband James, Stevi Holland, all of Fort Worth, and Brandi Helmacy of Bordentown, New Jersey; grandsons, Alex Powell, Caleb Powell, both of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jacob Ellis, Mason Ellis, both of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Chase Sorrell and Jackson Sorrell, both of Lufkin; mother, Gladys (Mason) Powell of Taylor, Arkansas; brother, Larry Powell of El Dorado, Arkansas; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Alvin Powell.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
