Funeral services for Danny James Stanbery, 70, of Huntington will be held Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Simon Purvis and Brother Gary Forrest officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Shofner Cemetery.
Mr. Stanbery was born February 12, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas to Albert James “A.J.” and Emily Jane (Forrest) Stanbery, and died Thursday, September 12, 2013 in a Houston hospital.
Mr. Stanbery was a lifetime resident of Huntington. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a Postal Clerk for 25 years. He was a member of the Word of Life Church. Danny was a born again Christian. He showed his love for America by wearing red, white and blue. He loved his friends and family. He always had something funny to say and a story to tell. For five years he loved greeting people at the school crossing with his “Victory” sign, a smile and some funny gestures. He is the self-proclaimed “42 guru”.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Stanbery of Huntington; daughters and son-in-law, Dena Steele of Huntington and Janora and Edgar Solis of Hudson; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Irma Stanbery of Diboll; grandchildren, Dean Stanbery, Delaney Steele, Elijah Steele, Grant Steele, Garret Stanbery, Angel Mijares, Destiny Stanbery, Ashton Solis, Natalie Solis, Shane Stanbery and Jaden Solis; brothers and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Linda Stanbery of Hudson and John and Holly Stanbery of Huntington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gayle and Travis Fuller of Lufkin, Beverly and Tim Johnson, and Patsy Jackson, all of Huntington; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Carroll Stanbery; daughter, Shara Joy Stanbery; brother-in-law, Pete Jackson; and father and mother-in-law, T.I. and Ora Jane Modisette.
Pallbearers will be Dean Stanbery, Elijah Steele, Chris Stanbery, Jake Stanbery, Joseph Johnson and Dwayne Fuller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Grant Steele, Garrett Stanbery and Angel Mijares.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
