Mass of the Christian Burial for Margaret Colner White, 90, of Lufkin will be celebrated Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Francis O’Dowd officiating. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home, with Rosary recited at 7:30. Graveside services will be held Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas with Fr. James White officiating.
Mrs. White was born October 16, 1922 in Kansas City, Kansas to Frank and Antonia (Lacy) Colner, and died Monday, September 2, 2013 in a local hospital. She had resided in Lufkin for 56 years.
Mrs. White attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School and Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a Private First Class in the Marine Corps during WWII and she is a charter member in the Women’s Memorial in Washington D.C. She traveled extensively in the U.S. with her husband Lee White who worked as a Field Engineer. In 1956, they made their home in East Texas when he accepted a position as Maintenance Engineer at Southland Paper Mill. She was a homemaker, volunteer at St. Patrick School and Ladies Guild, Girl Scouts, and worked with the Dominican Nuns. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to Rome Italy, Canada, and Mexico.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Michele Herron of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Karen and Greg Gibbs of Lufkin and Christine and Dennis Williams of Montgomery, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Herron of Tallahassee, Florida, Julia Herron of San Francisco, California, William Gibbs and wife Bonnie, and Thomas Gibbs, all of Lufkin; great-grandsons, Collin Gibbs and Carson Gibbs, both of Lufkin; nieces Sally Ann Craig and husband Felix of The Woodlands and JoAnn Bray and husband Bob of Overland Park, Kansas; and numerous other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, Lee A. White, and son-in-law, Chris Herron.
