Curtis William Heath

Graveside services with military honors for Curtis William Heath, 96, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery in Nacogdoches with Brother Charles M. Roberts and Elder Roy Wright, Jr. officiating.

Mr. Heath was born November 22, 1916 in Nacogdoches County, Texas to Moses Henry and Katie (Fawsett) Heath, and died Monday, August 19, 2013 in a local nursing home. He had resided in Lufkin most of his life.

Mr. Heath served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the infantry and artillery divisions. He was at Omaha Beach on D-Day, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, received the French Normandy Medal, and served in many other campaigns.

Mr. Heath attended Stephen F. Austin State University following the war. He was a master carpenter and at one time built his own shrimp boat. Mr. Heath was an avid fresh and salt water fisherman. He was very active in the V.F.W. He had been a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church for 30 plus years.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Anna Heath of Lufkin; daughters, Rose Mary Farley of Tucson, Arizona and Sharon Vanslooten of Lufkin; grandchildren, Robert “Bobby” and Katy Farley, Benjamin Chittenden and Terriann Daddow, Patrick Nestoly and Sundance Gauthier, William, Jr. and Karen Vanslooten, and Melissa Rex; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucile Lawrence of Lufkin and Pauline Parish of Cleveland; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ann Chittenden; sons, Henry Vanslooten and William Vanslooten; grandson, Christopher Nestoly; sister, Gladys Heath; and brothers, Otis, Hollis, Travis, Ernest and Harold Heath.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
