George M. “Buck” Taylor, 68, of Huntington, died Thursday, August 1, 2013 in a local hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. The family will have a private service at a later date.
George was born December 4, 1944 in West Point, Mississippi to George E. and Bessie Taylor. He served his country as a U.S. Marine from 1963-1967. He was a police officer in the Dallas, Texas area from 1967-1971. In 1971, George chose to serve his country again by joining the U.S. Air Force. George retired as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force in 1988. George went to work for the Texas Veterans Commission as a Veterans Service Counselor, assisting other Veterans from 1989-1996. He touched many lives and helped many people. George served his country with dedication and valor. He did not like to be acknowledged for his services and sacrifices over the years because he believed he was just “doing his duty”. George was ornery and kind hearted. He brought many smiles and laughter with the things he said and did. George did things his way.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughter Amy and "future son-in-law" Tom, his sisters, Ann and Jean, his granddaughter Ashley, two great-grandsons, Shane and Jacob and his "girls", Gretchen and Little Bit.
In his words, George was "just an ol' country boy from Mississippi". To his family, he was "everything and so much more".
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society of Angelina County, P.O. Box 472, Lufkin, Texas 75902 on his behalf.
