George Dunkin was born 16 August 1930 in Shawnee Prairie, Texas and passed from this life 25 July 2013 in Lufkin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Allie Dunkin; his son, James Alan (Little Jimmy); his brothers: Denman and Harrison; and his sisters: Pauline, Mildred, Ruth, Ollie, Jo, Dorothy, and Fara. He is survived by his children; Rhonda Funderburke and her husband Bob, and “Little” Mack Dunkin, and his wife Kim; his brother: “Big” Mack Dunkin; His sisters: Ruby, Sara, and Allie; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and loving in-laws.
George was a member of the church of Christ. He was veteran of the Korean War and served as a Staff Sergeant in the USAF. He retired from A Schulman, Inc. in 1992 after 33 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, served as a local union president, and donated frequently to various military and police charities, specifically disabled veterans and the Texas State Troopers Association.
A graveside service, with military honor guard, will be held Monday, 29 July 2013, at the Dunkin Cemetery in Zavala, Texas, with his son, Evangelist Mack Dunkin, officiating. Alene’s Florist in Lufkin will handle floral arrangements, and donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in the name of George Dunkin.
