Ella Mae Gilbert Bourrous

Funeral services for Ella Mae Gilbert Bourrous, 83, of Pollok, will be held Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Larry Hinsley and Brother Simon Purvis officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Bourrous was born January 6, 1930 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Alice (Hambrick) and Lonzy Gilbert. She died Monday, June 24, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Bourrous was a secretary and co-owner of G.P. Bourrous Trucking Co., Inc, and had lived in Angelina County all her life. She was also a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was currently a member of Faith Community Ministry Church.

Mrs. Bourrous gave her life to Christ under the pastorate of Rev. J.E. Harrell in 1948 at Gilbert’s Chapel Congregational Methodist Church in the Bald Hill Community, beginning her diligent work for the Lord. Beginning first with teaching children; and, having spent much time studying, as she learned, she advanced her teaching to Adult classes which she taught for more than 50 years, until her health declined. Her knowledge of the Holy Bible was amazing. Should a question be asked, she could answer it with Scripture, chapter and verse. Her testimony was a bold declaration of her love for Christ. Support of missions was also very important to her. In everything she could do, from prayer, monetary support and fund raising, etc., she gave it her best.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, G. P. “Jerry” Bourrous of Pollok; daughter, Lucretia Bourrous of Pollok; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ronnie Casburn of Diboll; granddaughters and spouses, Bridget and Jason Tobias of Diboll, Nicole and Britt Garcia of Argyle, and Jerri D. Bourrous of Pollok; great granddaughters, Jordan and Jade Garcia, Lucchesse Tobias; sister-in-law, Jeanette Gilbert of Lufkin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Bourrous was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ralph and Aubrey Gilbert.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Baird, Michael Baird, Curtis Dunn, Bob Flournoy, Danny Gilbert and Keith Gilbert.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim G. Bell, Joe Blake, Garland Brooks, Jimmy Crum, Billy Gauer, Bobby Hawkins, Clifford Stover and Vince Treadwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.
