Wanda Mae Kirkland Glidewell

December 13, 1920 — June 18, 2013

Funeral services for Wanda Mae Kirkland Glidewell, 82, of Zavalla, will be held Friday, June 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Concord Missionary Baptist Church located at 203 FM 2743 near Zavalla with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in Concord Cemetery.

Mrs. Glidewell died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at her residence in Zavalla. Wanda was born to the late David Willis and Bessie Lou (Aaron) Kirkland on December 13, 1930 in Cross Plains, Texas. Her family made their home in Rising Star, Texas.

Wanda married Reverend James Allen Glidewell on June 12, 1947 in Baird, Texas. Together, they raised five sons. They lived in Silsbee and later, Austin, Texas. Upon James’ retirement from the Texas Highway Department and pastoral duties, they settled near Lake Sam Rayburn in Zavalla, Texas. Wanda was a homemaker, a preacher’s wife, and very active in church activities. She later became a buyer for Gibson Department Stores. She was a wonderful cook, and her chicken fried steak was the best around. She loved to be surrounded by her sons and family.

Wanda was a Christian and loved the Lord. Her faith in Christ gave her the comfort and knowledge that, when she passed into eternal life, she would once again see her beloved husband, James.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Willis and Bessie Lou Kirkland; her husband, Reverend James Allen Glidewell; sister, Dorothy Pattillo; and brothers, Raymond and Woodie Gene Kirkland.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Allen Glidewell, David Charles Glidewell, Jackie Joe Glidewell and wife Pam, Jerry Wayne Glidewell and wife Kathleen, and Anthony James Glidewell and wife Judi; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Travis Pattillo, David Glidewell, Timothy Glidewell, Jason Kearney, Harley Murphy, Dewey Boulware and Chaston Townsend.

Honorary pallbearers will be T.J. Gregory, Ben Glidewell, Michael Glidewell and David Renfro.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at Concord Missionary Baptist Church immediately prior to the service.
