Funeral services for Dr. Bob Elliott, 79, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Brown and Dr. Stephen Parks officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Pastor J.V. Helms will bring the graveside committal prayer.

Dr. Elliott was born June 7, 1933 in Roby, Texas to Berlin Francis and Opal (Robbins) Elliott, and died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in a local hospital. Formerly of Baytown, he had resided in Lufkin since 2002.

Dr. Elliott was a minister, and had pastored at the following churches: First Baptist Church, San Diego, Texas, Seven Sisters Baptist Church, Seven Sisters, Green Baptist Church, Kennedy, Elliott Baptist Church, Hearne, Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, Fruitvale Baptist Church, Fruitvale, First Baptist Church, Bastrop, Conway Avenue Baptist Church, Mission, Market Street Baptist Church, Houston, Fisher Drive Baptist Church, Baytown (formerly Tri City Beach Baptist Church), First Baptist Church, LaPorte, and interim pastor for 19 different churches.

He formed the Bob Elliott Evangelistic Association, and was a current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin.

Survivors include his wife, Mittie LaVerne Elliott of Lufkin; sons, James Kenneth Thompson of Willis, Robert Michael Elliott of Clear Lake, Galen Craig Thompson and wife Cindy of Katy, John Brad Britton and wife Paulette of San Diego, California and Stephen Lee Elliott and wife Loree of Abilene; daughter, Christie Cook and husband Glenn of League City; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Elliott and wife Kathy of Port Lavaca; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Collin Matthew Thompson; sister, Irene Jeannette Diltz; and brother, David Elliott.

Pallbearers will be James Elliott, Jacob Cook, Jordan Cook, Corey Thompson, Craig Thompson and Glenn Cook.

Honorary pallbearers will be all Unity Baptist Seminary Extension Students who sat under Dr. Elliott’s instruction.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904, The Salvation Army, 412 S. 3rd Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901, or a church of your choice.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
