Herman Crawford

Funeral services for Herman Crawford, 78, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Keith Woolf and Brother William Smith officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park under the auspices of the Milam Masonic Lodge No. 2 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Crawford was born June 24, 1934 in the Peavy Switch Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late Woodrow Wilson and Jessie Helen (Tucker) Crawford, and died Monday, May 6, 2013 in a local hospital.

Mr. Crawford graduated second in his class at Diboll High School at age 16. He completed Telegraph School at age 17 and began his 42 year career with the Santa Fe Railroad, which took him around the state of Texas.

Mr. Crawford was a dedicated Mason for 32 years. He was a member of Milam Masonic Lodge No. 2 A.F. & A.M., and he also served in the Scottish Rite and Shrine. He served as President of both the Lufkin and Nacogdoches Shrine Clubs. He loved his service opportunities through the Shriners. Mr. Crawford was a member of O’Quinn Baptist Church.

Mr. Crawford was an avid genealogist and also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He was a master woodworking craftsman and was known for making and repairing toys.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Crawford of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Colin and Tawnya Crawford of Pearland; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Joe Ricklefsen of Friendswood, Kathy and Brian Jennings, and Sharon Parrie, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Leah Crawford, Landry Crawford, both of Pearland, Lauren Jennings of Lufkin, Connor Ricklefsen of Friendswood, Adam Parrie of Bay City and Jake Jennings of Lufkin; brother, Gerald Crawford of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Brian Jennings, Colin Crawford, Jarrod Smith, James Smith, Joe Ricklefsen and Connor Ricklefsen.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lufkin and Nacogdoches Shrine Clubs.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 6977 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77030.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
