Edgar "Ed" Casper, Jr.

Graveside committal services for Edgar “Ed” Casper, Jr., 78, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Brother Horace Fletcher, Trey Casper and Sherman Casper officiating.

Mr. Casper was born October 5, 1934 in Huntington, Angelina County, Texas to Bertha Gertrude (Garlington) and Edgar Robert Casper, Sr., and died Monday, April 29, 2013 in a Houston hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Casper resided in Angelina County most of his life. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from A&NR Railroad. He was a charter member and deacon of Hillcrest Baptist Church and had been the teacher of the Adult Sunday school class for over 40 years. He served the community as a member of the Lufkin Noon Lions Club and as a volunteer with CISC. He also served on the board of directors for the Lufkin Country Club was a past president of the Pineywoods Transportation Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Virginia Casper of Lufkin; son, Edgar “Trey” Casper III and wife Gladys of Tyler; daughter, Mary Ruth Reeves and husband Mark of Colleyville; granddaughters, Mary Meredith Reeves, Abby Caroline Reeves, Mary-Claire Price Reeves, all of Colleyville, Emilie Maria Casper, Ana Alison Casper and Carys-Noelle Virginia Casper, all of Tyler; grandsons, Mark Winston Reeves of Colleyville and Edgar “Robby” Casper IV of Tyler; brother and sister-in-law, Sherman and Pat Casper of Huntington; sisters, Dorothy Kohn of Austin, Garnett Pampell and Betty Allen, both of Houston; brother-in-law, Herman Oltman of Tomball; sister-in-law, Dorothy H. Winston of Houston; special friends, Vada and Winston Lawrence of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maudice Oltman; and brothers-in-law, Jack Kohn, Alfred Pampell and Edmund Price Winston, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Travis Ainsworth, Major Greene, Robbie Kohn, Winston Lawrence, Mark Reeves, Jerry Simms, Marlin Smith and David Winston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robby Casper, Winston Reeves and the Deacons of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
