Norman Ray Tindall

Funeral services for Norman Ray Tindall, 86, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ronnie Frankens officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mr. Tindall was born December 29, 1926 in Alto, Texas. He was the thirteenth and last surviving child born to Mary “Molly” (Stinson) Tindall and Gabe Edward Tindall. He passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Tindall, affectionately known as “Pop” to his family, was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed dearly by his loving family and many friends.

In 1944 at the age of 18, Mr. Tindall joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. His work ethic and lifelong values carried him into the workforce and throughout his life. Mr. Tindall’s intense commitment to his career at Lufkin Telephone Exchange was a great accomplishment and source of pride for him. The telephone company and the close knit employees became like a “family”. His co-workers became lifelong friends and he met the love of his life and surviving spouse, Margie. Mr. Tindall retired from Lufkin/Conroe Telephone Exchange as Senior Plant Engineer after 38 years of work. He and Margie retired from the phone company at the same time and embarked on almost 20 years of travel adventures in their motor home. Their travels allowed them to visit every state in the contiguous U.S. and also Alaska. They became active members in several motor coach clubs, helping to host many rallies, and Mr. Tindall was a past president of the Family Motor Coach Association. He loved visiting historical sites, seeing beautiful and interesting places all across our nation, and meeting so many wonderful people, many of whom became lifelong friends. When Mr. Tindall could no longer travel due to the onset of Macular Degeneration, he found enjoyment in his love for the outdoors, growing his renowned tomatoes and beautiful roses.

Pop will forever be remembered with love by his family for the positive influence he had on their lives and by friends as a man of integrity and good will.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Margie Tindall of Lufkin; sons, Melvin Tindall of Conroe and Mike Tindall of Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Leah Tindall of Hudson; daughters, Terrie Luce and Sherrie Luce, both of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Jordan Smith of McKinney; grandchildren, Dewayne and Tina Tindall and their children Olivia and Owen, Lacey (Smith) Rainey, her husband Jason and their daughter Emma, Jennifer (Tindall) Heaton, her husband Randy and their children, Chris and Anna Tindall and his sons. Also Eric Tindall, Jordan Tindall, Josh Tindall, Ryan Tindall, Ashlyn Tindall, and Danielle Holland; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy Tindall, James Tindall, Eddie Tindall, J.C. Tindall, Leon Tindall and Richard Tindall; and sisters, Leonie Barnes, Pearl Compton, Bell McCarty Beatrice Hutson and Virgie Tindall.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Tindall, Josh Tindall, Eric Tindall, John May, John Henry Brown, Jr. and Randy Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Tindall, Dewayne Tindall, Ryan Tindall, Jason Rainey and Jordan Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Homer United Pentecostal Church, 5319 FM 326, Lufkin, Texas 75901, or a charity of your choice.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
