Funeral services for Lonnie Edwin Ladd, 81, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Lufkin’s First Baptist Church with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman and Reverend Aubrey Knox officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.
Mr. Ladd was born May 10, 1931 in Apple Springs, Texas to the late Lonnie Lee Ladd and Pearl “Totsie” (Deggs) Ladd, and died Saturday, April 27, 2013 in a local hospital. He resided in Lufkin most of his life.
Mr. Ladd was a graduate of Central High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University and Lamar University. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Iceland. Mr. Ladd retired from International Paper following 40 years of employment. He was a skilled craftsman in all kinds of furniture and other wooden items. Mr. Ladd was a devoted Christian, having been ordained a deacon at age 21. He sang in many musical groups and choirs. He was currently a member and deacon of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ladd of Lufkin; stepchildren and spouses, Denise and Norman Neville of Diboll, Reece and Brenda Hubbard of Alto, Jeff Hubbard and fiancée Amber Vernoia of Atlanta, Georgia; six step-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Loy and Velda Ladd and Jim and Rondena Ladd, all of Deer Park; sister, Lois Swinney of Houston; nieces and nephews who he loved as his own children, Janna Maxey, Keith Swinney, Debbie Stefka, Sheri Vaughn, Gary Ladd, Anita Buffaloe, Jimmy Ladd and Lonnie Wayne Ladd; numerous grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins; and fellow co-workers at the paper mill.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Frances (Poe) Ladd.
Pallbearers will be Brian Buffaloe, Lonnie Wayne Ladd, Jimmie Ladd, Keith Swinney, Tim Vaughn, Gary Ladd and James Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Murray Sunday School Class of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church, and lifelong friend and cousin, Thomas Ladd.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin’s First Baptist Church, 106 E. Bremond Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901 or Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
