Sambo Farley

Funeral services for Sambo Farley, 88, of Zavalla will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 12:00 noon in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Pastor Cary Modisett officiating and special memories shared by Gina Donovan. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery.

Mr. Farley was born September 13, 1924 in Pine Hill, Rusk County, Texas to Homer and Bessie (Hillin) Farley, and died Friday, April 26, 2013 of lung cancer.

Mr. Farley served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He witnessed the raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi February 23, 1945 at the Battle of Iwo Jima. Mr. Farley earned a BBA in Accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1956, and began 30 years of service with Magcobar (now Halliburton) in Zavalla in June of that year, where he remained until his retirement in 1986. He was plant manager for 17 years. Mr. Farley was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Farley of Zavalla; daughter, Dinah Crim of Mesquite and her mother, Lucille Summers of Longview; grandson, Kaine Bidelspach and wife Kayla of Terrell; great-grandson, Kyan Bidelspach, born on Mr. Farley’s 80th birthday; sister-in-law, Bonnie Donovan and husband Richard of Lufkin and their daughter, Gina Donovan of Houston; brother-in-law, Curtis P. Berry and wife Hazel of Houston and their children; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; and son-in-law, Don Crim.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Hospice in the Pines for their loving care during a difficult time.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Tuesday morning prior to the funeral services.
