Meta Faye Whitman Johnson

December 13, 1931 — April 14, 2013

Funeral services for Meta Faye Whitman Johnson, 81, of Lufkin, previously of Lake Charles, Louisiana, will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beech Creek Baptist Church near Spurger, Texas with Pastor Jack Lewellen officiating. Interment will follow in the Beech Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born December 13, 1931 in Doucette, Texas to the late William Curtis and Gladys (Bingham) Whitman, and went to be with her Lord peacefully surrounded by her loving family Sunday, April 14, 2013 at her son’s home in Lufkin, Texas.

Mrs. Johnson graduated as valedictorian of Spurger High School. She dedicated her life to Christ at Beech Creek Baptist Church in 1948. Meta worked for Louisiana Savings in Lake Charles for 30 years and retired as Director of Internal Audits. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lake Charles. Meta enjoyed tending to her amazing flower garden and her flowers are blooming now. She treasured cooking for family, especially for her great-grandchildren whom she adored.

Meta was the heart of a loving family that included her true love, her husband of 63 years, J.W. Johnson of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Martha Johnson of Marshall and Jerry and Rosie Johnson of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jennifer and Pat Ogea, Sarah Johnson, Cory Johnson, Cherise Johnson and Victoria and Matt Malony; great-grandchildren, Allyson and Sean Ogea, Emily Miller and Madelyn Malony; brother and sister-in-law, William Sim and Pat Whitman of Beech Creek; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Joye Johnson; and brothers, Hago Astor Whitman and Robert Otto Whitman.
