Mary Lynne Hackney

Funeral services for Mary Lynne Hackney, 89, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, April 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with The Rev. Arthur A. Callaham officiating. The eulogy will be offered by Sam Griffin, Jr. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hackney died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in the Arbor at PineCrest Retirement Communities. She was born May 8, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her father, Andrew C. Porter, died in 1928. Her mother, Mary Leach Porter, died in 1969.

Mary Lynne has lived in Lufkin since 1928. She graduated from Lufkin High School with honors in 1940 and then attended Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College.

She was a member of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, past president of the Women of St. Cyprian's, and a Sunday School teacher. She was a former member of the Lufkin Service League, past president of the Lufkin Literary Club, and member of the Museum Guild of East Texas. She was a charter member of Memorial Hospital's Volunteer Auxiliary and the last of those to remain active. Mrs. Hackney enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and the ladies' investment club.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Lynne Sims of Garland; son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Susan Hackney of Austin; grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth and Kyle Caperton of Sachse, Texas, Christopher and Rachael Sims of Addison, Texas, John C. Hackney of Houston, Jennifer and Tom Szimanski of Lakeway, Texas, Laura and Jason Anderson of Round Rock, and Caroline Hackney of Austin; four great-grandchildren; brother, Andrew C. Porter, Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and close friend, Gail Carney.

Mrs. Hackney was preceded in death by her husband, Don V. Hackney.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Hackney's grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Kyle Caperton, Christopher Sims, John Hackney, Tom Szimanski and Jason Anderson.

The family extends a special thanks to PineCrest Retirement Community.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until service time Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
