Funeral services for Jimmie Allen Wood, 85, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Moats and Brother Charles M. Roberts officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Lakewood Cemetery in Henderson, TX.

Mr. Wood was born April 24, 1927 in Laneville, TX to William Jack and Lorraine Faye (Allen) Wood, and died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his residence.

He had resided in Lufkin since 1984 and was a self-employed contractor and bi-vocational preacher. He graduated from University of Corpus Christi receiving a Bachelors of Arts Degree in 1959. He also obtained a Masters Degree in History from Colorado State University and also served in the U. S. Army. Bro. Jim was licensed to preach by FBC Freeport in 1955 and was ordained that same year by Downtown Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, TX.

Bro. Jim and his helpmate, Kate, were commissioned by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1959 into the "Tentmakers Ministry", where they used by God throughout the state of Colorado. They were instrumental in establishing or supporting 13 congregations in Colorado and Wyoming. In 1987, Bro. Jim and Kate established and built Pine Forest Baptist Church in Onalaska. Then in 1996, Bro. Jim and Kate assumed the responsibility of pastoring the Shirley Creek Marina Mission on Lake Sam Rayburn. The current building was built under his leadership. He was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Kate Wood of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Christine Wood of Kansas City, MO, John Wood and Linda Diane Denson and Garry and Kathy Wood, all of Lufkin; daughter-in-law, Nancy Wood of Lufkin; grandsons and wives, Andrew Allen and Angela Wood of Littleton, CO, Michael and Marlise Wood of Berlin, Germany, Benjamin Allen and Jill Wood of Juneau, AK, Brian Edward and Julie Wood of Appleton, WI, Jonathan and Jessica Halla, both of Kansas City, MO; granddaughter and husband, Katherine Lee and Bryan Klunder of Burbank,CA; granddaughter, Laura Jane Wood of Lufkin; great granddaughters, Addison and Delaney Dean Klunder, both of Burbank, CA, Cassandra Wood of Berlin, Germany; great grandsons, Lucas Wood of Berlin, Germany, David and Dylan Wood, both of Juneau, AK, Perry Joseph Wood of Lufkin; nephews, Richard and Michael Grandbois, both of MA, Robert Finley of Houston,TX; nieces, Janice Grandbois of MA, Beverly Slough of Jacksonville, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jimmie Jack Wood on April 4, 2011, Kate's parents, Jack and Laura Apple, Kate's mother, Bonnie Apple, sister, Reba Faye Grandbois, and sister-in-law, Joan Apple Finley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Denman Avenue Baptist Church-His Most Excellent Way, 1807 E Denman Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75901, and Heart to Heart Hospice, 210 Christie Street, Lufkin, TX 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
