Graveside services for Jane Susan (Clay) Miller, 59, of Lufkin will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013 in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Shongaloo, Louisiana with Creighton Wilson officiating and eulogy by Alicia Nichols.
Jane was born July 23, 1953 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Stanley Robert and Nedra Jane (Shafer) Clay, and died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Lufkin, Texas.
She had resided in Lufkin for the past 26 years and formerly resided in Kirbyville for eight years.
Jane was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Everyone knew her by her big, warm smile, infectious laugh and her skills to teach others. She retired from Hudson ISD after teaching school for 29 years. She taught hundreds of school children in high school many "Life Skills", from Home Economics to Child Care, to use for the rest of their lives. She dearly loved all her students. She was a friend to many. She was a graduate of Comeaux High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, Class of 1971. She received a Bachelors of Education from Louisiana Tech University and was a member of the Kendrick Sunday School Class and Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Robert "Butch" Miller of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Tina Miller of Cedar Park, TX; daughter, Penny Miller of Lufkin; grandchildren, Marshal Miller and Megan Miller of Cedar Park, TX; father, Stan Clay of Ft. Myers, FL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Mary Clay of Cordova, TN and Jeff and Leslie Clay of Dallas, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Terry Miller of Lehigh, OK and Gary and Terri Miller of Bossier City, LA; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Dunn, Bill Stansfield, Matthew Miller, Casey Miller, William Clay and Alexander Clay.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donny Webb, Marty Harris, Jerry Burgess, Delwin Burgess, Clay Kenley, Turner Evans, Larry Kendrick, Roy Nichols, Ted Miller and Gary Miller.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines,1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hudson High School Teachers and Faculty, Dr. Sean Moran and Hospice in the Pines.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
