Charles Hugh Young

Funeral services for Charles Hugh Young, 83, of Pearland, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Lufkin with Rev. D. Nick Sholars and Dr. Keith Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Young died on Friday, March 22, 2013 at his residence following a ten-year battle against metastasized renal cell carcinoma. He was born on February 3, 1930 in Thomastown, Leake County, Mississippi, the first child of Alma Adams Young and Ernest Lehman Young.

Charles and Pauline Farr were married on May 16, 1954 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Charles graduated from Mississippi State University in May 1954 and was employed by the U.S. Forest Service for 30 years. In 1972, he was transferred to Lufkin, Texas, which was home to the family until August 2010, when Charles and Polly moved to Pearland.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Mr. Young is survived by his two sons, Paul Farr Young of Houston and Charles H. Young, Jr. (Chuck) and his wife, Terri Dorsett Young of Nederland; grandson and granddaughter, Jesse L. Young and Hayley D. Young, both of Nederland; three sisters, Karen Young Stone and Sally Young Farris, both of Pearland, and Ann Young McMahan of Gonzales, Louisiana; one aunt, Mrs. John (Bettina) Caldwell of Hernando, Mississippi, as well as ten much-loved nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was predeceased by his brother, Harold E. Young of Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Jesse L. Young, Jonathan D. Farris, Michael L. Farris, Vincent McMahan, Greg Gibbs and James Mahan.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
