Herman Bruce Barnes, Jr.

Funeral services Herman Bruce Barnes, Jr., 59, of Zavalla will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Jackson Colwell and Bob Brown officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Zavalla Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was born March 20, 1953 in Lufkin, Texas to Verdie Lee (Wise) and Herman Bruce Barnes, Sr., and died Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Nacogdoches. He was employed with Oncor for 35 years and was a member of the Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

Bruce was diagnosed February 2005 with ALS. He fought the battle valiantly and was a light and inspiration to all who met him. His warm demeanor would touch your heart and you would fall in love with him. He was a teddy bear. His sense of humor would have you laughing until you cried. Bruce was loved by so many, and will be missed. Until we meet again.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Barnes of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jeffery Cooper of Pollok; sons and daughter-in-law, Herman Bruce "Trey" Barnes III of Zavalla and Cory Neil and Becky Jackson of Niceville, Florida; grandchildren, Skyler Mayer, Kristin Jackson, Dalton Jackson, Reid Mayer, Saydee Jackson, Cailyn Cooper, Olen Cooper and Anna Cooper; mother, Verdie (Wise) Barnes of Zavalla; sister and brother-in-law, Emily "Emmie" and Bill Collins of El Paso; nephew and wife, Jim and Mellissa Paxon of Zavalla; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Bruce Barnes, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Bob Boulware, Kenneth Marshall, Mark Havard, Jimmy Sheffield, Steve Dent and Howard Daniel.
