Ronny Edward Oates

Funeral services for Ronny Edward Oates, 63, of Huntington will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Bobby Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Sims (Rocky Hill) Cemetery.

Mr. Oates was born November 23, 1949 in Lufkin, Texas to James Edward and Dorothy (Pinner) Oates, and died Saturday, February 16, 2013 at his residence. He resided in Huntington most of his life. Mr. Oates had been a member of the Boilermakers Local 587 for 32 years. He was a member of the Rocky Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Oates of Huntington; children and their spouses, Tori and Mike Sprouse of Gore, Virginia, Billy "Bubba" Dovel of Rileyville, Virginia, and Crystal and Joe Mattox of Vidor; stepchildren and their spouses, Michael and Mona Sorrell of Flint, Misty and Tommy Strickland of Lufkin, and Sammy and Mandy Vanden of Huntington; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sprouse, Sara Sprouse, Danyelle Dovel, Andrew Dovel, Darren Mattox and Mason Edward Mattox; three great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Rick Martin, Tamara and Roy Zander, and Sissy Oates, all of Huntington; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Oates.

Pallbearers will be Michael Sorrell, J.R. Godeaux, Sammy Vanden, Joe Paul Rogers, Milton Ramey, Darren Mattox and Devon Downey.
