Funeral services for Leo W. Bird, 93, of Zavalla will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Johnson Missionary Baptist Church in Zavalla with Pastor Robert Horn officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Evergreen Cemetery in Orange.

Mr. Bird was born November 6, 1919 in Orange, Texas to the late Jessie (Davis) and Lee Henry Bird. He died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at his residence in Zavalla.

Mr. Bird was a retired pipefitter for Union Carbide in Texas City following 34 years of service. He was a member of Pipefitters Local #195 and #211. Mr. Bird served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a member and past Commander of the VFW Post in LaMarque. He also was a member and past Master of Angelina Masonic Lodge #1263, A.F. & A.M., in Zavalla. Mr. Bird was a member of Johnson Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Jeanette Bird of Port Neches; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmo and Tressie Bird and Gerald and Delores Bird; sister and brother-in-law, Bernadine and Wayne Bradley; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys Amy Bird; daughter, Gwen Speaks; and son, Jimmie Lee Bird.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert E. "Bob" Lee, Elmo M. Bird, Ron W. Bird, and Gerald L. Bird.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Huntington.
