Funeral services for William Harold Snelson, 92, of Huntington will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother David Snelson officiating. Interment will follow in the Manning Cemetery.
Mr. Snelson was born June 28, 1920 in Panola County, Texas to the late John Heidt and Jewel (Hudson) Snelson, and went to be with the Lord Monday, February 18, 2013 at his residence. He resided in Huntington most of his life and was a member of Highway Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Snelson served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a farmer and rancher, and was an avid outdoorsman until a month before his death. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping, and working with his livestock. Mr. Snelson always lived life to its fullest and always looked forward to tomorrow.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Judy Snelson of Huntington; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Gerald Conner of Huntington and Marylin and Ray Smith of Sour Lake; grandchildren and spouses, Michelle McCleskey, Clark and Wendy Snelson, Alicia and Taylor Barkley, Stacie and Fred Appleton, Brandon Smith, and Jennifer and Damian Cabrera; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Doyel Snelson and Lynn and Helen Snelson, all of Huntington; sister-in-law, Jimmie Lee Havard of Huntington; brother-in-law, C.J. Havard of Huntington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Orpha Lee Snelson.
Pallbearers will be Tom Havard, Troy McCleskey, Sherman Snelson, Paul Howard, Steve Farr and Frank Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Graham, Clayton Duren, Pete White, Norman Green and Greg Caton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 209 Christie Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
