Elaine (Ingram) Hollis Lockhart

Funeral services for Elaine (Ingram) Hollis Lockhart, 92, of Apple Springs, will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastors Robert Lankford, Lindsey Nimmons, and Tammy Mark-Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs.
Mrs. Lockhart, a fifth generation resident of Trinity County, was born August 1, 1920 in Apple Springs, Texas to Lillie (Roach) and John Edgar "JE" Ingram. She died Saturday, February 9, 2013 in a Lufkin hospice facility.
Mrs. Lockhart was the retired County Clerk for Trinity County, a position she loved and held for more than 20 years. She graduated from Groveton High School in 1938 and moved to Houston, where she attended college and worked until she returned in 1963 to Apple Springs to care for her parents. Mrs. Lockhart was a people person, involved in many community activities. She loved horses and cattle. As a member of the Trinity Historical Commission, she was very involved in preserving East Texas history, as well as family genealogy. She was a Trinity County Gold Star Mother with the VFW Auxiliary, a member of the Angelina County Genealogical Society, a member of the Joseph Nelson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a life member of the Groveton Ex-Students Association. She had served on many boards and advisory committees for the betterment of the East Texas Area. Mrs. Lockhart was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Hollis, Jr. and Peggy Hollis of Houston; daughter, Michelle Lockhart of Apple Springs; grandson, John E. Hollis of Houston; granddaughter and husband, Mary Brooke and Blake Hortenstine of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Katherine Jane "Katie" Hollis of Houston, Rollins Blake Hortenstine and Hayes Hollis Hortenstine, both of Dallas; niece, like a daughter, Deborah Kay Brooks and husband Jimmy of Lufkin; numerous other nieces and nephews, to include Anne Arnold Banks, Connie Arnold Middleton, Kathy Ingram Hellums, Kay Foster Baugh, Richard E. Bennett, and Binky Foster; sister-in-law, Edna Lockhart Stanley of Houston; brother-in-law, Lloyd Earl Lockhart of Splendora; and a wealth of friends.
Mrs. Lockhart was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert R. "Bob" Lockhart; son, John Edward "Johnny" Hollis (US Navy, Vietnam, 1970); sister, Virginia Ingram Arnold; brother, James R. "Sonny" Ingram; and special sisterly cousin, Easel Womack Walls.
Pallbearers will be John E. Hollis, Blake Hortenstine, Stephen E. Bennett, Tre' Banks, Gerald Ingram and Richard Spring.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Brooks, Damon Brooks, Joe E. Seward, Blair Foster, Richard E. Bennett and Binky Foster.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Willie Mae Punch, Vernell Spencer, Karen Mark, Timothy Davis, Bobby G. Davis and Lee M. Hicks, in addition to MHSET, Dr. Morris Mickelson, Wright Choice Home Health, and Hospice in the Pines.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Groveton Ex-Students Association's Scholarship Fund in Elaine Lockhart's name at P.O. Box 70, Groveton, Texas 75845.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
