Irene Lord Johnston

Funeral services for Irene Lord Johnston will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Skipper Eberlan officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Johnston was born March 6, 1925 in Geneva, Texas to the late Ernest Melton and Ethel Estelle (Jones) Lord, and died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at her residence.

Irene was graduated from Lufkin High School with honors in 1942. She went on to study bookkeeping at the business college. She enjoyed her involvement with the Brownie Scouts as a troop leader. She was a very active member of Forest Park Methodist Church and then became a charter member of St. Paul's Methodist Church. She designed their home on Lake Sam Rayburn where she and her husband moved in 1977. She retired from Champion Paper Mill in 1980. After moving to Etoile, they joined Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as a teacher, treasurer and mentor. The couple enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing together. They made many wonderful friends as they traveled with the Good Sam's Club of Lufkin, often accompanied by their granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband and love of her life for 72 years, C.W. (Johnny) Johnston of Etoile; daughter, Kathy Richardson of Etoile; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jacqui Johnston of Lufkin; granddaughters and spouse, Klair Johnston of New York City, Susan Oettle and Phillip of New York City, and great-grandson they are expecting in April, Morgan Johnston of Austin, and Barrett Johnston of Dallas; step-grandchildren and families, Deidre Rials, husband Jerry, daughter Taylor Matney, and her son Tristin of Conroe, and Kyle Richardson of Conroe and his children Nicole and Danielle Richardson of Sugar Land; sisters-in-law, Norma Lord of Etoile and Billie Lord of Huntington; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ernest Lord and Melton (Junior) Lord; sister, Louise Warner; and granddaughter, Dana Medford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Mack Frazier, Rick Davis, Pete Sargent, Gerald Prescott, Chris Lord, Bobby King, James Morrison and T.C. Muckleroy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church, P.O. Box 125, Etoile, Texas 75944 or Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
