Funeral services for Wanda Matchett, 75, of Huntington will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ora Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Keith Rose and Wesley Matchett officiating. Interment will follow in the Shofner Cemetery. The church is located on FM 2109, 7 miles from Main Street in Huntington.
Wanda Matchett, beloved mother, sister and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Wanda was born September 30, 1937 in Huntington, Texas to Columbus Jasper Johnson and Nellie Jane (Collins) Johnson.
Wanda lived her entire life in the community of Huntington and was a devoted member of Ora Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her God, her church, her family and her friends, and those left behind will miss her giving and loving spirit. Wanda felt her greatest legacy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lit any room up with her smile and kind nature. She was the world's best cook and chocolate pie maker and lived her life as a good Christian and dear friend to all who were blessed to know her.
Wanda is survived by her brother, Robert Johnson and wife Annaline and was a proud mother of her children, Franklin Harvey Matchett II and wife Pearl of Barryton, Michigan, Jerry Leon Matchett and wife Patricia of Huntington, Janet Matchett Williams and husband Patrick of Lufkin, and Teresa Ann Matchett Kees of Smyrna, Georgia. She was an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother to Jennifer Ogden and husband Ben of Lufkin, great-grands Bradley, Brittany, and Colton Ogden, and great-greats Rylan and Jonah Ogden; Michael Matchett and wife Belinda of Huntington, great-grands Skylor and Sydney Matchett; Jeremiah Gavette of Huntington, great-grands Lyndsey, Christian, Alexander, James, Evoli, and William Gavette; Bradley Matchett and wife Ashley of Huntington, great-grands Bradley, Kelsey, and Brayden Matchett; Franklin Matchett and wife Candace of Nacogdoches, great-grands Adriana and Jefferson Matchett; Columbus Jasper (CJ) Matchett and wife Virginia of Coral, Michigan, great-grands Gerald and Evalyn Matchett; Miranda Saucedo and special friend Harrison Yeager of Austin; Hailee Kees Reed and husband Justin of Huntington, great-grand Abigale Reed; Wesley Matchett and wife Amy of Bridge City; Robert Craig Matchett of Huntington; Heather Mongelluzzi and husband Frank of Smyrna, Georgia, great-grand Kiree Mongelluzzi; Curstin Matchett Jones and husband Colton of Huntington; Matthew Kees of Smyrna, Georgia; Caydence Matchett Smith and husband Robert of Deer Park, great-grand Chandler Smith; Jamee Fowler of Huntington; E.J. Bergman of Lakeview, Michigan, great-grands Kayedon, Shianne, Eric Bergman; Mary Bergman Becker and husband Jim of Coral, Michigan, great-grand Rona Ray Peake and husband Tommy of Barryton, Michigan, Kylie, Pearlanna, Michael Bergman and James Becker; niece, Deborah Johnson De Maris, husband Earl, daughter Michelle Baltimore; and nephew, Robert Eugene Johnson, Jr., wife Mary Ruth, daughters, Claire and Jamie.
She was preceded in death by both parents; sister, Lovey Lucille Johnson Morehouse; granddaughter, Vivian Gabrielle Simmons; and great-grandson, Harley John Micheal Simmons.
Pallbearers will be Michael Matchett, Bradley Matchett, Wesley Matchett, Jennifer Ogden, Jeremiah Gavette, Miranda Saucedo, C.J. Matchett and Patrick Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Curstin Jones, Caydence Smith, Franklyn H. Matchett III, Robert Craig Matchett, James Johnson, E.B. Berry, Fred Phillips, and Dave Harkins.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Ora Missionary Baptist Church.
