Funeral services for Wyatt Dotson, 88, of Henderson will be held Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Joe Carriere officiating. Interment will follow in the Pollok Cemetery.
Mr. Dotson was born April 2, 1923 in Ponta, Texas to the late Bessie Estelle (Waldrup) and William Harmon Dotson. He died Sunday, September 11, 2011 in a Henderson nursing facility.
Mr. Dotson was a retired teacher and coach, following more than 30 combined years of service at the Wells, Central and Hudson ISD's. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was a Sergeant at the time of his discharge. Mr. Dotson received a bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin University, where he was a standout player in basketball. He was a member and deacon at the Pollok Baptist Church. Formerly a resident of the Lufkin area for more than 50 years, Mr. Dotson had lived in Henderson for the past year.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marjorie J. Dotson of Pollok; sons and daughters-in-law, Hardy and Suzanne Dotson of Henderson and Greg and Lisa Dotson of Hudson; grandchildren, Nolan Dotson, Conner Dotson, Blake Dotson and Alyssa Dotson; brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Tommie Ruth Dotson of Jacksonville; sister, Amaryllis Campbell of Angleton; as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Nolan Dotson, Blake Dotson, Conner Dotson, Sandy Terry, Scott Terry and Todd Terry.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pollok Baptist Church, P.O. Box 85, Pollok, Texas 75969.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
