Chester Leroy Rickel

Funeral services for Chester Leroy Rickel, 71, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles Roberts and Brother Kevin Roy officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Egypt Cemetery in Colmesneil.

Mr. Rickel was born July 9, 1940 in Star, Texas to the late William Joseph and Florence (Brooking) Rickel, and died Saturday, September 17, 2011 in a local hospital.

A former resident of Colmesneil, Mr. Rickel had resided in Lufkin for 15 years. He was a 1958 graduate of Star High School, located in the Star Community near Goldthwaite. Mr. Rickel earned a Masters degree in Agriculture Education. He owned and operated Homer Mini Storage and Rickel Self Storage, and was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church and the Bible Survey Sunday school class.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Barbara Rickel of Lufkin; daughter, Kelly Katherine Daniel of Nacogdoches; granddaughter, Anna Laura Daniel of Nacogdoches; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Loretta Rickel of Goldthwaite; sisters and brother-in-law, Ina Cox of San Angelo and Alice and Gerald Howard of South Lake; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rickel was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Rickel and Ernest Rickel; sister, Christine New; and son-in-law, Darryl Daniel.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bible Survey Sunday school class of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
