A reception to celebrate the life of Eleanor Nabbs, 85, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church Parish Hall. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nabbs was born December 31, 1925 in London, England to the late Eleanor D. (Kinchlea) and George W. Leather, and died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in a local nursing home. A former resident of New Milford, Connecticut, she had resided in Lufkin since 1994. Mrs. Nabbs was a retired bookkeeper and was a volunteer at Woodland Heights Hospital and the Museum Guild. She attended St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Gayle Nabbs of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Jack Rafferty of Newport Richey, Florida; granddaughters, Diane Eubanks and husband Sean of Slocum, Kimberly Malik and husband Mike of West Columbia and Allison Rafferty of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Jessica and Logan Eubanks of Slocum and Bryson and Tripptyn Malik of West Columbia; sisters, Jean Perkins of Bournemouth, England and Thelma Smith and husband John of Crawley, Sussex; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nabbs was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Stanley Nabbs; and brothers, Donald Leather and George Leather.
The family extends special thanks to PineCrest Retirement Community and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and assistance.
