Graveside services for Mable F. Akers, 72, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Berry Cemetery with Jeff Scott officiating.
Mrs. Akers was born April 22, 1939 in Millett, Texas to the late Gladys Ardell (Tillman) and Ira Sims Mathews, and died Friday, September 30, 2011 in a local hospital. She had resided in Lufkin most of her life and had worked for Ralph New Oldsmobile. Mrs. Akers loved bluegrass music and taught herself to play guitar. She enjoyed going to Sacul for the bluegrass jam sessions. Mrs. Akers attended Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Akers of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Margaret Akers of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Dave Dennis of Houston; grandsons, Chris Akers and Cory Akers, both of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Jimmy Powell of Lufkin and Marie and Edmond Coulter of Huntington; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Jackie Mathews of Trinity, Earl Mathews of Huntington and Tillman and Frankie Mathews of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Akers; and sister, Betty Basham.
Pallbearers will be Chris Akers, Cory Akers, Dave Dennis, Larry Mathews, James Coulter and Mike Coulter.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Carroway Funeral Home.
