Funeral services for Henry K. Johnson, Jr., 83, of Diboll will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Paul Mettlen officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnson was born February 6, 1928 in Palestine, Arkansas, the son of the late Laura Lee (Meatte) and Henry K. Johnson, Sr. He passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy, and was retired after 40 years of service at Champion Paper in Pasadena, Texas. He then worked another 10 years on his ranch in Moscow, Texas. It was his lifelong dream to have a cattle ranch, and he enjoyed every minute he spent there. After his health began deteriorating and he could no longer tend his ranch, he moved to Diboll where he lived until his death. Mr. Johnson loved living in the country and seldom ever went back to the city once he retired.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita Johnson of Diboll; daughter, Cheryl Ferguson of Moscow; daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Scott Lacey of Greenbrier, Arkansas and Patricia and Brad Dannhaus of Needville, Texas; grandchildren, Natasha Hulsey and fiancé Truett Miller, Austin Lacey, Justin Dannhaus, Ashley Dannhaus, Heather Henry, Brandi Guillory and husband Jeff; great-granddaughter, Madeline Grace Guillory, and another of God's gifts on the way; sisters, Cora Bradsher of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Sarah Smith of Pasadena, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry K. Johnson, Sr.; mother, Laura (Meatte) Johnson; and sisters, Hazel Johnson, Helen Murphy, Emogene Carlton, Kathleen Williamson and Faye Gardner.
Pallbearers will be Brad Dannhaus, Scott Lacey, Reginald Wills, Ernest Ulrich, Maurice Williamson, Austin Lacey and Justin Dannhaus.
The family extends special thanks to Pastor Paul Mettlen and the First Apostolic Church for their thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow, as well as Mr. Johnson's nurses, Debbie and Jan, and the other staff at Hospice in the Pines that have been so kind and caring.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
