Laurette Mckewen

Funeral services for Laurette McKewen, 92, of Lufkin, will be held Friday, October 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Marshall Coffey officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. McKewen was born February 1, 1919 in Lufkin, Texas, and died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at her residence in the PineCrest Retirement Community.
Mrs. McKewen was a retired teacher for the Lufkin I.S.D. following more than 40 years of service. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and a member of the Central Church of Christ. Mrs. McKewen loved cooking, sewing, teaching, dancing, riding around with Mary Tittle, her sister, and their daily 3:00 o'clock Dr. Pepper from Ray's. Whoever was graced to sit at her table was blessed with her fried chicken and yeast rolls. More than anything else, though, she loved her family and friends.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Michael Reagan and Phyllis McKewen of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lynn and Terry Nicholas of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Taylor and Theresa McKewen of Lufkin; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Tittle of Lufkin, Bennie Jo Wylie of Houston; and three nieces and one nephew.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Wilson McKewen; her father, Bennie Madison Smith; her mother, Mamie Gertrude Taylor Smith Stone; her stepfather, Reagan ""Poppy"" Stone; and special friends, Dora Jane Friesen, Virginia Moore and Clifford Davis.
Pallbearers will be Lee Friesen, Gip Friesen, Phillip Friesen, Joe Rich, Trey Henderson, Kevin Smithhart, and Bill Dobrec.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
