Ethel Irene Howell

Funeral services for Ethel Irene Howell, 91, of Lufkin will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roy Hall and Reverend Joe Carriere officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Mrs. Howell was born June 20, 1920 in Wakefield, Polk County, Texas to the late Julia Anne (Sauls) and Jacob Lawrence Phillips, and passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 following an extended illness. She married James C. Howell on March 2, 1940. They celebrated 59 years of marriage together, having moved to Lufkin in 1946. She was a member of the Woodlawn and Clawson Baptist Churches for 65 years, and was the last living Charter Member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Mrs. Howell was an active community and church leader, where she taught many adult Sunday School classes and actively worked in youth Sunday School and fellowship programs. She was also an active volunteer at Central ISD throughout the years of her three children's education.

Survivors include her daughter, Annette Burchfield of Lufkin; son, Buddy Howell and wife Karen of Pinehurst, North Carolina; son-in-law, Larry Lindstrom of Crosby; grandchildren, Lanita and Kevin Anderson of Chesapeake, Virginia, Duane Burchfield of Nacogdoches, Megan Howell of Raleigh, North Carolina, Aaron Lindstrom of Humble, Eric and Tammy Lindstrom of Dayton and Neil and Misty Lindstrom of Crosby; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Howell; daughter, Lynda Lindstrom; son-in-law, Earl Burchfield; and eight brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Duane Burchfield, Aaron Lindstrom, Neil Lindstrom, Eric Lindstrom, Raymond Wallace, Norman Turner, and Wallace Dickson.
