Funeral services for Aubrey A. ""Art"" Best, 73, of the Helmic Community in Trinity County will be held Friday, October 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lester McAdams officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery.
Mr. Best was born March 27, 1938 in Trinity County, Texas to the late Amy (Mossenton) and Lonnie B. Best, and died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in a local hospital. He was a lifetime resident of Trinity County. Mr. Best served in the U.S. Army and was a maintainer operator for Trinity County Precinct 4 for 10 years. He loved to farm, and grew the best watermelons. Mr. Best was Church of Christ by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Best of the Helmic Community; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Larry Rogers of Crockett, Cheryl Brown of Groveton, Terri and Larry Cawley of Lufkin and Darla Kay and Johnny Ray Starling of the Helmic Community; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Judy Brown of Groveton and John and Julie Brown of Apple Springs; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, L.C. Best, Ben Best, both of the Helmic Community, and Ralph and Valerie Best of The Woodlands; sister, Josie Spradley of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Best was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd Best and Michael Best; and sister, Betty Dennis.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Dewayne Rogers, Carl Rogers, Mark Brown, Tony Brown, James Rutledge, David Kendrick, Aaron Kendrick, Kevin Starling and Chad Starling.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
