Funeral services for Darrel W. (Pa) Powers, 79, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Glenn Morton officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Powers was born November 14, 1932, in San Augustine, Texas to the late Evelee (Warr) and Addis Simmons Powers. He died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Powers worked for Lufkin Industries for 33 years, 25 years of which he had perfect attendance. He was a Class A Machinist and a member of IAMAW Union Local 1999. Mr. Powers served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955, attaining the rank of Corporal and Tank Squad Leader. He was stationed in Germany and served with the Baker Battery, 48th Anti Aircraft Battalion. Mr. Powers was a devoted member of the Etoile United Pentecostal Church. He was true to his faith and bible reading, reading the Book of Acts 120 times. Mr. Powers had resided in Lufkin most of his life.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Ethelene Golden Powers of Lufkin; daughter, Jeanette Powers Reiss of Lufkin; son, Lloyd (Bubba) Powers and fiancée Lisa of Lufkin; grandchildren, Dewaine Allen of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Tamara Allen Blalock and husband Matt of Vinton, Louisiana, Richard (Clay) Powers and wife Amy, Stefanie Powers Tubbs and husband Ricky, all of Huntington, and Kyle Reiss and wife Melissa of League City; and great grandchildren, Courtney Smith, Jaycee Tubbs, Wesley Tubbs, all of Huntington, Hailey Powers, Avery Lynn Powers, both of Huntington, Kaleb Blalock, Kaden Blalock, both of Vinton, Louisiana, Grant Allen of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and another great grandchildren on the way.
Preceding Mr. Powers in death were his parents; sister, Vernell Tullos; brother, Myrle Powers; and his beloved daughter-in-law, Jackie Powers on May 1, 2010.
Pallbearers will be Richard (Clay) Powers, James Milstead, Kyle Reiss, Dewaine Allen, J.R. Harvey and Ricky Tubbs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackie Powers' Rose Fund at the National Foundation for Cancer Research, 4600 East West Highway, Suite 525, Bethesda, Maryland 20814.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
