Funeral services for Gary R. Baker, 71, of the Swift Community in Nacogdoches County, will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Bob Lewis officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Carlisle Cemetery in Trinity County.
Mr. Baker was born August 17, 1940 in Groveton, Texas to the late Erma (Chessher) and Jesse Richard Baker. He died Saturday, November 19, 2011 in a Nacogdoches nursing facility.
Mr. Baker was a retired self-employed logging contractor, and had resided in the Swift Community for the past 25 years. He graduated from Lufkin High School and served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Baker was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his children, Gary (Ricky) Baker, Jr., of Lufkin, Jeanne Lynn Clarson of Tomball, Leigh Ann Ahr of Bryan, Joe Ann Calvit of Houston, John Baker and Robert Baker, both of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Jessica Baker, Jamie Lyn Baker, James Clarson, Katylyn Baker and Allie Baker; two great grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Josh Baker of Lufkin, Joe and Anna Baker of Trinity; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Mr. Baker in death were his parents and sister, Peggy Perkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Baker, Kenneth (K.C.) Baker, Matt Baker, Charles Delafosse, Phil Delafosse, Ronnie Hunt, James Clarson, James Hunt, Billy Page, Leland Temple, David Ahr, Pat Clarson and Kelly Miller.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home.
