Memorial services for Helen Sue Kent, 94, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Henderson Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin with Senior Pastor Nick D. Sholars officiating. A private family graveside service will precede the memorial services.

Mrs. Kent was born May 17, 1917 in Era, Texas to the late Ninnie Rae (Hudspeth) and Joseph Ransom Waggoner, and died Thursday, November 24, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Kent resided in Lufkin most of her life, and was a secretary at Kent, Marsellos and Scott Architects for many years. She was an active member and Sunday School teacher at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin and a member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Kent was a hands-on wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She faithfully and quietly lived the Golden Rule for 94 years.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Charles and Beverly Kent of Lufkin and Gary and Judy Kent of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Denis Byers of Garland; grandchildren and spouses, Amy and John Gilbert, Becky and David Fontenot, Michael Forest Kent, Kent Byers, and Justin and Mandy Byers; great-grandchildren, Meg and Sophie Fontenot, Joshua and Ben Gilbert; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kent was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Wilbur Kent; two brothers; and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904, First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, 805 East Denman Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904, the PineCrest Retirement Community Trust, 1302 Tom Temple Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or the Wilbur and Helen Kent Scholarship Fund, c/o Lufkin High School Alumni Association, P.O. The family extends special thanks to Hospice in the Pines, Lula Weber, and the special caregivers of PineCrest Home Health.
