Funeral services for Medford L. Cowart, 90, of Lufkin will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don Loftin officiating. Graveside services with military honors and Masonic rites will follow in the Huntington Oddfellows Cemetery. Masonic rites will be under the auspices of the Huntington Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Cowart was born November 2, 1921 in Huntington, Texas to the late Mary Magdlene (Page) and Grady Dennis Cowart, and died Friday, November 25, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mr. Cowart served in the 8th and 9th Divisions of the U.S. Army Air Corp as a machinist during World War II, stationed in England. He owned and operated an Humble Oil Co. Station, was co-owner of Peco Oil in Lufkin, and also owned and operated TGT Welding Supply in Lufkin.

Mr. Cowart was a 65 year member of the Huntington Masonic Lodge #254 A.F. & A.M., and a member and past president of the Lufkin Shriners. He was a member of Fuller Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Cowart of Lufkin; daughter, Mary Ann Cowart of Ft. Myers, Florida; stepson, Ray (Larry) Wheat of The Woodlands; numerous nieces and nephews; also other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Robert Telford, Jerry Telford, David Pate, Michael Pate, Steven Pate and Billy Page.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday prior to the funeral services.
