Robert Leroy Myers

Funeral services for Robert Leroy Myers, Sr., Ret. U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class, 69, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Poret officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Myers was born December 5, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Verna (White) and Alonzo L. Myers. He died Saturday, November 19, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Myers worked for Lufkin Industries as a welder for seven years, and was a security guard at Temple Inland for 15 years. He retired from the U.S. Navy following 20 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lufkin Post #1836, and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Myers had lived in Lufkin for more than 33 years.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Julia Myers of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Robert L., Jr., and Teddie Myers of Lemoore, California; daughter, Katherine Curtis of Dyersburg, Tennessee; stepchildren and their spouses, Raymond P. and Christine Garcia, Charles H. and Dolores Garcia, all of Redlands, California, Linda Little and Michael Blanchard of Arlington, Texas, and Oscar L. and Connie Garcia of Reno, Nevada; one grandson; 14 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; brother, William H. Myers of Lincoln, Nebraska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest and Gracie Acosta of Houston, Gilbert and Connie Acosta of Hudson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lydia and Kevin Wolters of Richmond, Virginia, Frankie Sue and Rudy Zamora of Grand Prairie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives from the Philadelphia area and friends.

Preceding Mr. Myers in death were his parents and sister, Delores Myers.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon prior to the service at the funeral home.
