Dovie Estelle Hall Smith

Funeral services for Dovie Estelle Hall Smith, 77, of Lufkin will be held Friday, December 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Pastor Hails Taylor officiating, with interment following the services.

Mrs. Smith was born May 28, 1934 in Diboll, Texas to Vera (Weisinger) and Nolan B. Hall. Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in a local hospital, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Smith was a kind-hearted, sweet woman who never met a stranger, and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin.

Affectionately called ""Granny"" by her family, Mrs. Smith was an avid reader her entire life. She loved animals, especially cats, dogs, and hummingbirds, and enjoyed feeding other wildlife such as deer, squirrels and raccoons.

Mrs. Smith was a stay-at-home mom and loved cooking meals for her family and friends.

""Granny"" is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda and John Langford of Lufkin, Otto III and Kathy Smith of Lufkin and Donna and Robert Gantt of Lampasas; granddaughters, Jessica Smith of Lufkin and Deidra Williams and husband James of Harker Heights; great-granddaughters, Maria and Victoria Williams of Harker Heights; sister-in-law and husband, Peggy and Doc Taylor of Warren; nephews, Hails Taylor and Todd Taylor; cousin and special friend, Georgia Bradberry; and a number of other cousins and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Otto Smith, Jr.; parents, Vera and Nolan Hall; and brother, Jerry Hall.

Pallbearers will be Don East, Marion Abner, Walter Berry, Charles Alexander, Robert Gantt and James Williams.

The family would like to extend special ""Thank You's"" to Dr. Karl Krohn and his staff, Dr. Cherry, and the nursing staff at Woodland Heights who were so considerate in Miss Dovie's care during her illness.
